VANDALS have scrawled a swastika and dumped human excrement on Southampton’s cenotaph in a sickening insult to war heroes who lost their lives fighting for this country.

The Nazi emblem was sprayed on to the First World War memorial just days after Hampshire soldiers from the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment – The Tigers – were deployed on a seven-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Veterans have condemned the desecration as “absolutely appalling”.
It comes just weeks before the planned unveiling of new memorial walls which will be engraved with the names of thousands of Southampton soldiers who have died in conflicts since the First World War.
Police have launched an investigation.
